Which Evergreen School District Middle School will my child be attending?

Where is Quimby Oak located?
Our address is 3190 Quimby Oak Road, San Jose, CA.

Who is the principal?
Mrs. Ginger George is the principal of Quimby Oak Middle School. We have two assistant principals, Mrs. Jaime Hammond and Mr. Mark Stolan. Mr. Stolan is also the site director for Lobos School of Innovation (LSI).

Are there any specialized academic program choices?

Yes, on the campus of Quimby Oak we offer a New Tech Network Project Learning academic program called Lobos School of Innovation (LSI). Learn more about the LSI program at Lobo School of Innovation at Quimby Oak.

Evergreen School District also offers a New Tech Network Project Based Learning academic model called Bulldog Tech at LeyVa Middle School.

Registration for LSI and Bulldog Tech takes place in the spring.

How do I register for the new middle school? Do I need to register for middle school if my child already attends an elementary school in the district?

If you are currently attending an elementary school in Evergreen School District that is in the attendance area of LeyVa or Quimby Oak:

  • Your child is automatically registered in the middle school they are assigned.
  • If you interested in attending the project based learning school program offered at your middle school, you need to complete an application to attend this program: Bulldog Tech application; LSI application.

If you are new to Evergreen School District:

  1. Enroll your child in middle school at Evergreen School District.
  2. If you will be attending a middle school that offers a project based learning school program at the school will be attending, complete the application for your school: Bulldog Tech at LeyVa Middle School application; LSI at Quimby Oak Middle School application.
  3. If you are interested in attending a project based learning program not offered at your middle school you need to:
    1. Complete a School Choice application and
    2. Complete an admissions application for the project based learning school you are interested in attending: Bulldog Tech at LeyVa Middle School application or LSI at Quimby Oak Middle School application

How will my child select their Elective Classes?

In the spring, students complete an e-form to chose their Elective Class for the next school year. Elective Classes are assigned on a space available basis. Priority is given to eighth grade students first.

Registration links will be sent through email following student orientation. We try our best to fulfill each students choice, but we are unable to guarantee them. Learn more about Quimby Oak Elective Classes to see which ones your child might be interested in.

What can I do before the school year begins?
  1. Make sure your child has their Tdap shot. A school immunization law requires all students entering 7 grade in California to be immunized with a pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine booster called Tdap. All students entering into 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap shot given on or after their 7th grade birthday before starting middle school. Parents need to present documentation of their child’s vaccination record to their elementary school's front office.
  2. Register for PowerSchool. PowerSchool is a web-based student information system used by Evergreen School District. The system lets parents and students see how their student is performing academically, follow their attendance, and communicate with teachers. You can see what scores they have earned on assignments/tests, if there are any missing assignments, and sometimes see upcoming assignments. A mobile phone app is also available to access the same information.
    1. Make sure you child has their Tdap booster shot and two doses of Varicella (VAR). A school immunization law requires all students entering 7 grade in California to be immunized with a pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine booster called Tdap and has received two doses of Varicella. All students entering into 7th grade will need proof of a Tdap shot and Varicella given on or after their 7th grade birthday before starting middle school. Parents need to present documentation of their child’s vaccination record to their elementary school's front office before the end of the school year.     2. Register for PowerSchool. PowerSchool is a web-based student information system used by Evergreen School District. The system lets parents and students see how their student is performing academically, follow their attendance, and communicate with teachers. You can see what scores they have earned on assignments/tests, if there are any missing assignments, and sometimes see upcoming assignments. A mobile phone app is also available to access the same information.
    3. Register for Parent Square. ParentSquare is used for school and district communication, primarily using email and text.
      1. Current ESD students - The ParentSquare account(s) for parents of students currently attending an ESD school will automatically be rolled over to their assigned middle school the week before school begins.
      2. Parents of newly enrolled students need to register for a ParentSquare account after creating a PowerSchool account.

How does my child try out for sports in the middle school setting?
Throughout the school year various sports are offered at each middle school. Some sports are cut sports and others take all students interested.
What are other ways to get involved?
There are a variety of extracurricular activities available to students. Clubs, dances, noontime activities, intramural events, Spirit Days, and other events are just some of the opportunities students have to participate in their school. Advanced Placement

Which middle school courses offer advanced placement?
All our middle schools offer advanced placement classes in math. In May, all 6th grade take a diagnostic math assessment called Algebra 1/Integrated Math 1 Readiness Test or MDTP. Results from the MDTP assessment AND the 2020 CAASPP math assessment assist in determining middle school math placement.
How is my child selected for advanced math class?
For incoming 7th graders, all middle schools offer Common Core Math 7 and Accelerated Math 7/8. Students' scoring at a mastery level qualify for advanced math class for 7th grade. Additional questions about the MDTP math assessment, or the district's set criteria for establishing math placement, can be directed to Mrs. Deborah Ashmore, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. How will I know if my child was placed in the advanced math class?
You will be notified in August when student schedules are sent out by mail and/or when class schedules are posted in PowerSchool, which is typically the day before school begins.
