Class of 2021
6th Grade Promotion Activities
Ninety three 6th graders promoted today from elementary school to middle school. As with most everything this year, the ceremony wasn't the usual celebration we are accustomed to - chairs were spaced 6 feet apart, masks covered faces, and air high fives replaced hugs - but the most important aspects remained the same. The pride, happiness, sense of accomplishment and excitement for the future were clearly visible in the students, the parents and the teachers and staff. Howie reminisced seeing these kids as first graders when he arrived at Silver Oak and seeing them now, and how much they have grown and matured. Megan A., the Student Council President, addressed the crowd with words of wisdom and advice. Mrs. Neil, Ms. Pink, and Mr. Mahr shared memories of the year and expressed their gratitude to the students and families for working together to meet this challenging year. Finally, a special congratulations to Anika B. and Liam C. for receiving the Evergreen School District Community Youth Award, which is bestowed upon one girl and one boy in 6th grade at each school.

Hello 6th Grade Parents:
This year has been challenging with distance learning and the 6th grade class unable to enjoy their final year at Silver Oak, a place most have called home for seven years. Although we may not be able to have our traditional 6th grade celebrations of a pool party, dance, and field trip to Great America, we are looking forward to sending our 6th graders off with a Promotion Celebration to remember on Thursday, June 10, 2021. Please continue to watch your email and check back here as we will share details of our promotion ceremony shortly.

The Sixth Grade Promotion Slideshow is a Silver Oak tradition that all parents and students look forward to. 6th Grade Class Gift Donation
One tradition we are proud to continue is the Class Gift to Silver Oak. This year, the class of 2021 will be working with the local muralist, Lila Gemello, to install a mural on the ball wall to brighten the playground.
Lila will meet with each 6th grade class via Zoom to talk about the process. She will then ask students to create and submit art that reminds them of and represents Silver Oak and our neighborhood.
Lila grew up in Evergreen and attended Silver Creek High School, her father, George Gemello, is a math teacher at Chaboya. Lila has completed a number of murals at various Evergreen schools, including but not limited to Chaboya, Montgomery and Laurelwood. To see more of Lila's work, please visit her website.
Class Tile
The 6th grade class will leave behind a signed class tile to be mounted at school. Your child's teacher will coordinate with him/her to get a signature.
Commemorative Class Gift
Each student will receive a yard sign, and promotion goodie bag which will include a throw blanket and other items.
