Starting kindergarten is big step for children, and the anxiety they experience is a perfectly normal part of the developmental process. PTA helps make this transition easier for your child with an ice cream social right after Kindergarten Orientation. Where there’s a yummy cool treat, there’s always a smile.

The Reflections Program is a nation-wide arts appreciation and recognition program for students sponsored by National PTA. The Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:

• Unleash their creative talents and be inspired
• Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
• Experience the joy and fun of making art
• Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
• Receive positive recognition for their original works of art

Usually kicked off at Back to School Night, bake sales have become a favorite for students and parents alike. You can look forward to a few of these throughout the year. If you are a talented baker (or supermarket shopper), you won’t want to miss this opportunity to share your tasty treats AND help the PTA raise funds.

These monthly fundraisers are an easy excuse to leave the cooking to others. Take the entire family out or order out for dinner at designated restaurants and a portion of your check will be earmarked for PTA. All it usually takes is bringing flyers sent home in Friday folders or downloading one from Peachjar. Participating restaurants have included Round Table Pizza, Togos, McDonald’s, and Sweet Tomatoes. Coming together to celebrate the talents of the children benefits not only the participants, but the entire school community. The talent show promotes a positive school environment and especially creates quite the buzz around campus. All students are encouraged to audition. And while not all who audition are cast in the final show, all who audition are recognized for their efforts in preparing their act and their courage to perform in front of our judges.

What says “family” more than Movie Night! Several times throughout the year, PTA selects recent movie releases for special viewings inside the Eagle’s Nest. Movie-watching families are encouraged to bring anything to make themselves comfy (blankets, pillows, bean bags, etc) and extra cash to purchase yummy concession items. Admission is always FREE! One movie toward the end of the school year will be selected with upper grade students in mind, so be sure to check the movie synopses to make sure your little ones won’t be surprised.

Right about the time teachers begin running out of items like tissue boxes and copy paper, PTA sells these types of supplies to students/families at cost to give to teachers for the holidays. Supplies are delivered straight to teacher classrooms with a personalized note written by you! – how much easier can holiday shopping be?

Bingo! Bingo! Bingo! Yell it loud and yell it proud! Experience the thrill of bingo where you can go home a winner of a fabulous prize. If luck is not with you during Bingo, you can also try your luck at winning fun raffle prizes.

Usually held in February, the book exchange offers an opportunity for students to bring up to 5 books from their personal libraries and exchange them the following week at a themed evening event. Families attending are usually treated to ice cream, snow cones, snow cones, hot chocolate or the like.

A school tradition, International Day guarantees a cultural experience to remember. There’s definitely something for everyone: world showcase with exhibits, kid crafts, dessert tastings, cultural performances, student art displays, and so much more. There is no better way to travel the world, in just one night!

ABC is Project Cornerstone’s effective parent engagement program. Volunteers are trained in the developmental assets model for positive youth development, and prepared to read a specially selected children’s book and lead related activities and discussions in classrooms each month. The program’s goal is to help school communities achieve the following:

• Create a common language and vocabulary about student respect and behavior expectations among all members of the school community — students, parents and caregivers, teachers and staff.
• Help students develop skills to handle physical, verbal, relational and digital bullying and to STAND UP if they see someone else being bullied.
• Increase the number of caring adults on campus so that all students feel that there is at least one adult they can turn to if they have a problem.
• Contribute to a positive school climate where every student feels valued and supported to achieve and thrive.

Held at the Barnes & Noble store at Eastridge Mall, it includes special events such as mystery readers, a scavenger hunt, science demonstrations, crafts, and “Think Fun” Game Night. All proceeds benefit the school library.

Help say “thank you” to our teachers and staff. Parents sign up to bring food and other items for a PTA organized breakfast and lunch held during Staff Appreciation Week. Students are also invited to bring other tokens of appreciation throughout the week.

Come one! Come all! Held on a Sunday afternoon, the End of Year Carnival is a student favorite celebrating the end of the school year. Carnival booths staffed by parent volunteers provide ticket-earning opportunities. These tickets are then turned in for fabulous prizes. Tickets can also be purchased for food, drawings, and other activities like face-painting and balloon animals. You can also expect classroom competitions for volunteer sign-ups.

Smart Craft is a year round program organized by the PTA to enhance students' motor skills by teaching them arts / crafts. In 2015-16, the PTA in alliance with 'Art for Foster Care' is helping students create special artwork for our school's 60th Anniversary! Their artwork will be professionally reproduced as greeting cards, T-shirts and sweat shirts. These will be available for purchase as memorabilia of this special event for our school. This year, students meet every Friday from 2:30 to 3:30 at the Eagle's Nest. For more information, please contact the office.

FunVisors are any and all parent volunteers who wish to go out on the playground at lunch time recess and 'play' with the kids. It makes it nice for parents who can't commit to a regular scheduled event because they don't need to sign up, they can just show up any day they are available. Campus regulations do require that parents are screened for background before stepping up to volunteer for this event. So, please get in touch with the office to become a FunVisor today!

For only $20 you may request a birthday message for your child to be displayed on the school’s electronic marquee. Messages will remain five consecutive days beginning the day of your choice. Requests may be submitted well in advance but must be received at least 1 week prior to the date you would like to start the message. Consider scheduling summer and holiday birthday messages for the week prior to school breaks. Get a request form . All funds support the programs, events, and school supplies/equipment provided by Evergreen PTA.
