Community Involvement

JF Smith is fortunate to have the support of a caring and involved community of parents, students and staff. Here are some of the charitable activities organized by community members throughout the year. Check the homepage for details of each activity as it takes place and take advantage of these opportunities to "give back."

St.Baldrick's

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity dedicated to raising money for lifesaving childhood cancer research and funds more in childhood cancer grants than any organization except for the U.S. government.

Fundraising efforts are led by the JF Smith Student Council to raise money for this organization.

Giving Tree

The Giving Tree

During the holidays, JF Smith families participate in the Giving Tree. A tree located in the school has the names of local families that are in need of very basic goods. Families pick a tag off the tree and fulfill a child’s request.

Second Harvest

Second Harvest Food BankEach year, JF Smith is proud to support the Second Harvest Food Bank, whose mission is to provide food for people in need in our community. In December of every year, we bring in several Second Harvest Food Bank barrels which are placed throughout the school for families and students to place canned food donations. Watch the school website for participation dates.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is the trusted leader dedicated to ending local hunger. Since its inception in 1974, Second Harvest has become one of the largest food banks in the nation, providing food to an average of nearly one quarter of a million people each month. Nearly half of the food distributed is fresh produce. Second Harvest also plays a leading role in promoting federal nutrition programs and educating families on how to make healthier food choices.

Jump Rope for Heart - American Heart Association

Students jump at the chance to fight heart Jump Rope for Heartdisease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers. Each year, we host a Jump Rope For Heart event to raise money for the American Heart Association, which funds lifesaving heart and stroke research and community and educational programs for our youth.

Jump Rope For Heart teaches students how physical fitness benefits the heart and shows them that volunteering can be a fun and positive experience for the whole community.

Halloween Candy Drive for Operation: Care and Comfort

The PTA Go Green Team conducts an annual candy drive for U.S. Military troops. Parent volunteers collect candy from students, teachers, and other parents during the morning drop-off. All this candy iss sorted and boxed and weighed. Then these boxes are taken to the local storage facility for Operation: Care and Comfort. This volunteer group delivers the candy we collected to U.S. Military troops stationed in the United States and overseas.
