Family Nights are a way Cadwallader families come together almost monthly to have fun learning together. The Cadwallader staff spends countless hours preparing for these special evenings.

Even in relentless rain, Cadwallader families "poured" into the cafeteria on Friday, February 6, for Family Science Night. Teacher Susan Seran coordinated this wonderful event in which participants were challenged to create parachutes using only a washer, handkerchief, sheet of paper, plastic bag, and string in 30 minutes. Many tests were conducted and in the end, the one that had the longest "hang time" was deemed the winner. This is one example of the exceptional Family Nights at Cadwallader!

Last month, Cadwallader's health clerk, Sherry Gilmore, and Title 1 Coordinator, Sunita Parmar, created a "Frozen" themed Family Math Night which brought a full house of 100 families! Many math strands were integrated through games, arts and crafts, computer coding, and even snacks!

In December, Family Art Night celebrated all religious holidays as students decorated wreaths for Christmas, colored Rangoli patterns, created Hanukkah greeting cards, fashioned bracelets for Kwanzaa, constructed pinatas for Las Posadas, and designed crescent moons for Ramadan.

The next family event will be Family Reading Night this Friday, March 6th. It's going to be another fun family night as Dr. Seuss' birthday will be celebrated around his book, The Lorax. Vice Mayor Rose Herrera, Board Member Bonnie Mace, Denise Williams and Jody Joines will be guest readers. Later in the year, students and parents can look forward to Family Writing Night, in which children's author, Tim Myers, will visit and sign books.
