Positive Behavior Programs

Honor Roll is a special accommodation awarded to students who reach certain academic goals throughout the year. You must be in grades 4-6 to be eligible for the program.

• Gold Honor Roll is awarded to students who receive all A's on their report card and demonstrate satisfactory citizenship (no N's or U's).
• Silver Honor Roll is awarded to students who receive all A's and B's on their report card and no N's or U's.
• Bronze Award is awarded to students who receive all A's, B's and C's on their report card and no N's or U's.

Report cards are given out each trimester. Students have three opportunities over the course of the school year to reach Honor Roll.

Academic Achievement Honor Roll

Students who do not meet the criteria for Gold, Silver or Bronze Honor Roll, but are making SIGNIFICANT progress towards reaching personal academic goals. This award is especially designed for students with an IEP or within the ELD program that are doing excellent work.

Perfect Attendance

Students in transitional kindergarten through 6th grade who do not miss a single day of school for any reason (and have 3 or fewer tardies) will earn a Perfect Attendance Award.

Citizenship Award

Students in transitional kindergarten through 6th grade who demonstrate excellent citizenship during the course of the trimester are eligible to earn this award.

Most Improved Award

Students in transitional kindergarten through 6th grade who demonstrate improvement in any area (academics, behavior, social skills, etc.) during the course of the trimester are eligible to earn this award.

Students are honored for their outstanding achievement in the Accelerated Reader Program.

O.B. Whaley students can receive free high interest books by participating in the annual read-a-thon sponsored by Barnes and Noble. Every time a student finishes reading a book they fill out an entry on the read-a-thon summary sheet, they then receive a free book to add to their own personal libraries at home. The top reader in the district receives a special prize.

O.B. Whaley Student Council represents the voice of our students. They help to plan and execute school-wide special activities and provide input on school decisions. Our Student Council consists of four student officers, which include president, vice president, treasurer, and historian. Also included are two class representatives per class from grades 1-6.

The student council, which is overseen by two O.B. Whaley teachers, manages and/or assists in programs such as the student recycle program, daily morning announcements, and our weekly whole school meeting. They raise money throughout the year with their four Spirit Gram sales and student run recycling program.

The Girls on the Run program encourages girls in 3rd - 6th grades to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. This spring program begins in February culminating in a celebratory 5k race in May.

Developmental assets are positive relationships, opportunities, values and skills that young people need to become caring and responsible. O.B. Whaley is committed to helping our children in developing these assets. Through our partnership with Project Cornerstone, students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of class and school wide service projects. In addition to our commitment to students, we are making a commitment of the families of our community. We would like our community to become knowledgeable about developmental assets and ways to build them in our youth. Workshops and opportunities for parents to participate in the program will be made available.
