After School Programs

The City of San Jose Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Laurelwood Elementary School offers San Jose R.O.C.K. after school program on campus.

The program provides students an after school environment that will include: homework assistance, enrichment activities, structured games and a safe and nurturing environment.

Students will be engaged in positive out-of-school-time activities that will be provided by trained and certified City of San Jose staff.

Young Rembrandts is designed to teach art techniques and vocabulary to elementary children. Local drawing classes for children ages 6 to 12 are available after school, right at school! Classes are offered in 6 week sessions.

As students draw a new lesson every week, they learn a variety of art concepts including:

Portraiture
Perspective
Still life
Realism/Abstraction
Art history
Color theory
Fundamental composition skills
Line and patterning
Art vocabulary

Enrolling your child in a Young Rembrandts' class will provide them with a comprehensive art literacy that serves them well not just at the drawing table, but in school!

"The Green Heroes Environmental Project brings environmental clubs to elementary schools in order to build awareness of environmental topics, explore present problems of pollution, and develop ways in which the community can address these problems. This generation will someday be the one in charge, so in the future, Green Heroes students will be taking their knowledge about the natural world into account when they make important decisions."

Code The Way Computer Club introduces students to the basics of coding on computers and familiarize them with the various applications of technology and how fun it can be through engaging, hands-on activities. The Code The Way Computer Club provides a fun, learning environment for your child to explore computer science skills with provided guidance that can be used to bring their ideas and interests to life. Devices (Chromebooks) will be provided by Laurelwood on Fridays. In addition, pencils and a notebook to take notes would be helpful for your child to bring if enrolled in the program.
