History

O.B. Whaley School, part of the Evergreen School District, was built in 1965. It is located near the foothills in southeast San Jose. Our Mascot is the Whale. Our colors are Navy Blue and White.

O. B. Whaley School, the district's third school, was named in 1963Otis Butler Whaley after Otis Butler Whaley, who served on the Evergreen Board of Trustees for 27 years. The Whaley family purchased a prune and apricot orchard in the foothills off of San Felipe Road in 1911. They called their orchard Sunnyslope Farm. The property is now part of the Meadowlands housing development. Mr. Whaley died in 1946 at the age of 75.

Community & School Profile

Evergreen School District, located in the City of San Jose, is comprised of fifteen elementary schools and three middle schools. Once a small farming city, San Jose became a magnet for suburban newcomers between the 1960s and the 1990s, and is now the third largest city in California. The city is located in Silicon Valley, at the southern end of the San Francisco Bay Area, and is home to more than 973,000 residents.

O.B. Whaley Elementary School is located on the western side of the district’s borders. The school serves students in grades K-6 on a traditional calendar schedule. The chart displays school enrollment broken down by ethnicity.

The school provides a family-oriented, nurturing, and safe place for students to learn, grow, and develop intellectually. Teachers, staff, and administrators continue to act on the principle that students come first.
