Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten

(updated 8/28/20)

Evergreen School District offers two instructional choices for children so they have the best start possible, with a curriculum that is designed just for them.

On this page, learn more about our traditional kindergarten and transitional kindergarten programs and how to register.

Traditional Full Day Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten

Full Day Kindergarten

Kindergarten year is an important time of transition for young children. It represents the first year of formal schooling for 98 percent of the children in the United States, and it marks the bridge between early childhood education and the primary grades of school. Full day kindergarten is available at all elementary schools in the Evergreen School District.

Full Day Transitional Kindergarten*

Transitional kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn in an enriching and academically challenging environment that nurtures their growth. Research shows that children who attend kindergarten readiness programs like transitional kindergarten are more likely to do well in school and attend college. Evergreen School District offers a full day transitional kindergarten program at seven* of its elementary schools.

Registration Information

If a student is registered to attend another school in the District, parents may apply for School Choice. How to apply, the process, and other important information can be found on our School Choice webpage.

Families may register for transitional kindergarten if your child turns five between September 2 and December 2 of the current year. Registration packets for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten will be available at your child’s home school when schools reopen in August. A child’s home school may be found using our school locator. Please note that in addition to the registration packet, parents must have the following items:

  • Proof of residence: Three pieces of original documentation are required. (Four pieces of original documentation at our impacted schools Matsumoto and Carolyn Clark) See acceptable forms (PDF).
  • An original birth certificate or other legal document showing date of birth (i.e. Passport)
  • Immunization record (California schools enforce a “no shots, no school” policy.)

If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Villalobos or Amy Shaffer at 408-270-6800.
